Battle of Fort George 2023 Reenactor Registration

The 210th anniversary of the Battle of Fort George l has been confirmed for July 15/16 ,
2023!!!!

We ask that Unit Commanders fill out the registration below for your entire unit. Individual re-
enactors do not need to fill out a registration form unless they are in their own unit. This helps us
determine numbers for programing and logistics (food, washrooms etc..) for the weekend. If you
have family members that are non-combatants attending as well they can be included on a single
registration. Make sure to include your email so we can send you any updates.

All registrations must be submitted by July 1, 2023, to ensure we have enough supplies for everyone.

Please be sure to share the Participant Information Package with your members so they can read all the guidelines for the event.

 

Participation Information

Camps and Food service:
 All camps including British, American, First Nations and Merchants will be located at Fort
George National Historic Site.
 We are working to provide Breakfast both days at Fort George NHS.


Battles and Demonstrations:
We have a very exciting planned with two tactical events on Saturday morning and afternoon, and one tactical event on Sunday afternoon. This may change as planning continues, however a schedule will be given upon arrival. Saturday evening is currently free for re-enactors to enjoy at their own leisure. There may be some optional programming for re-enactors to enjoy.


Children Volunteers:
Be advised that while we are happy to have children of re-enactors on site we want to ensure
the safety and enjoyment for both our volunteers and visitors.
 For safety purposes children are not permitted to climb on any of the earthworks at Fort
George NHS.
 Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in ANY of our buildings or
historic structures at all times.


The following will be provided for the weekend:
• Potable water will be available at the site.
• Firewood is available all weekend
• Fire pits are permitted. (See participant information package for more details)
• Public washrooms are available on site 24 hours a day.
• Set up is permitted after 12:00pm for re-enactors. Please see the Participant information
package for vehicle regulations.

Security Regulations

  • Access to staff areas are restricted to Parks Canada staff ONLY. This includes all of Blockhouse #3 and the upstairs of Blockhouse #1. Re-enactors are not permitted in any of these areas.

 

Historic Weapons

The age for handling black powder is 16. All firearms, artillery pieces and implements will be inspected by site staff before they can be used for demonstrations. Copies of the sites’ Safety Rules will be available at the event sites. Please ensure all unit members are aware of these safety rules. A copy can also be found in the Participant information package below.

Any cannon barrel under 3' or 90 cm in length and with a carriage with less than 2' or 60cm of clearance, unless designated a mortar or howitzer, cannot be guaranteed a spot in the artillery lines. If you have any questions or concerns, PLEASE contact Peter Martin at peter.martin@pc.gc.ca.

 

Cavalry

Any cavalry units that wish to attend mounted, must contact Peter Martin peter.martin@pc.gc.ca BEFORE registering. Cavalry units that wish to attend dismounted can register as normal.

Merchants and Sutlers

In addition to the online General Registration Merchants also need to include a detailed description of their tent space requirements (Including rope lines) to ensure that you will fit in the space provided. Merchants are also required to provide proof of insurance for your business. Such proof can be provided by your insurance agent or your military unit’s insurer. Please note that regular re-enactor’s insurance specifically excludes commercial activities – for your own protection, as well as the protection of the site and your customers, please ensure that you do have proper coverage. These can be Mailed, Faxed or Scanned/emailed to the information provided below.

Merchants must be in period costume and use period tents. The site the right to refuse an application from any party, for any reason, at their sole discretion.

Payment for Merchant Space

There is NO cost for an Historic merchant at Fort George.

Set up:

Please provide detailed information in the section for tent space found above. You may set up during the following times at Fort George:

- Friday July 14 from 10:00am until 10:00pm
- If you wish to set up earlier please contact me. 

Merchant Space Rentals

The space that you have rented is for your company or group only. Each merchant’s space will be indicated by stakes and twine according to the measurements you provide. Please strictly observe these markings and please work with your neighbours to ensure that these boundaries are respected.

 

Items Offered for Sale

Please help us in maintaining the quality of this event by displaying and selling only items that are historically accurate and/or relate to the Napoleonic period. If you are asked by designated staff to remove an inappropriate item please comply. If you chose not to maintain Napoleonic period merchant status you will be asked to leave the event and invoiced as a modern vendor. The fees for modern vendors start at $300.00. Items that are in direct completion with the on site canteen will not be permitted (example: bottled water, brand name chocolate bars, brand name chips, etc... are not permitted).

The sale of any item acquired by archaeological excavation or pirated copies are strictly prohibited.

Registration Form

We ask that Unit Commanders and Merchants fill out a registration form, Individual re-enactors don’t not need to fill this out unless you are the only one in your unit.

IMPORTANT NOTE - UPON ARRIVAL AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS DURING THE EVENT - EVERY ADULT UNIT MEMBER MUST SIGN AN INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEER FORM AND INCLUDE FAMILY MEMBERS.
